Location: Portland, OR Description: Each year, thousands of children in Multnomah and Washington Counties, become wards of the Juvenile Court System, through no fault of their own, because they have been victims of abuse and neglect. CASA for Children is an independent non-for-profit organization that recruits, trains, and supports citizen volunteers who serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates, of CASA Volunteers. CASA Volunteers are ordinary men and women from all walks of life, educational levels and ethnic backgrounds who volunteer to serve as an advocate for an abused or neglected child. When a CASA Volunteer is court appointed to a case, he or she is responsible for gathering information and coordinating as many elements as possible, in order to secure for each child a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. CASA 9,s visit children regulary, review records, interview parents and relatives, consult with teachers, neighbors and foster care providers, and work closely with community service providers. They advocate, in court and in the community, for the children and families to gain acccess to needed support and services. Your role as a CASA Volunteer requires a strong dedication to children, some daytime flexibility, creativity in problem solving, the ability to be objective, and above all, a desire to make a real difference in your community. Location: Portland, OR Description: Educate Ya, a local Latino-based non-profit, is now recruiting members for their Latino Young Adult Leadership Council! We are looking for Latin@s ages 18 to 35 to be part of this exciting opportunity. The goal of the Latino/a Young Adult Leadership Council is to encourage Latino/a young adults to develop their leadership skills and become more involved in their communities. This is a free program run by and for the Latino/a young adults who meet bi-monthly at the Edcate Ya office. They recieve training on a different aspect of leadership, community involvement, technology, goal management, and employment skills. Council members are required to make a minimum commitment of one year.
