During the 13th and 14th centuries it flourished as one of the major cities of Europe, growing rich from banking and the wool trade. The 14th century saw a great amount of construction: the Duomo, the Palazzo Publico and the Campo Square were all products of this time. Siena's glory took a tragic downturn by the end of the 14th century due to the Black Death and political upheaval. The city became little more than a rural market center. It was exactly this decline that accounts for the incredible state of medieval preservation that Siena exhibits today. Built across several hills and valleys, you will find a bit of up and down while walking through the historical center. However, the lack of traffic makes it a wonderful place to stroll'even when packed with tourists, there is a quiet and easygoing feel. A must-see is the shell-shaped square called Il Campo. Description:This almost 200 year old property was completely and patiently restored over a 3 year period and is now available for rental for the first time. The property, one of the coasts largest, offers a small, private, gated parking area for two cars, just outside the front door. The main villa is 5 stories, but there are an additional 6 levels of terrace space , which go directly down to the water front. There is 15,000 sq. ft of private park and direct access to the sea. Arrival to the villa is possible both by land and by sea. n t nThe entrance level of the villa has an entrance foyer, living room, and one bedroom with double bed and loft with a pull out sofa for a child. The entrance hall is filled with dc3a9cor pieces, paintings, and cast-iron candelabra, and leads into the living room, which is a comfortable space with a functional fireplace and great views. n nAll of the 8 bedrooms are relatively standard in size and amenities, offering independently controlled air conditioning, LCD Satellite TV, a safe, parquet floors, small refrigerators, a dresser, built-in closet space, flat screen TV's, and beautiful, brand-new ceramic tile bathrooms.
