Description:(Minimum of one week rental required) Maremma Estate is a stunning, 32 acre (13 hectares) estate located in ancient, Etruscan country, on the borderland of northern Maremma, and four kilometers from the charming village of Castellina Marittima. The Estate is situated within the wide, wild, and environmentally protected Il Terriccio Nature Reserve and includes four homes constructed from stone. The original farm structure dates back to the 18th century and today reflects a comprehensive and meticulous renovation by the current owners, with guidance from a well-known Tuscan architect. nThe estate offers its guests a 12 acre (five hectares) garden, designed and implemented by the internationally well-known architect Paolo Pejrone and his colleague Franco Brugo. The expansive garden includes fruit plants of many different Mediterranean cultures and a superb, fully equipped swimming pool area. This area includes a large solarium, a spacious pool (with a shallow end for children), a patio with sun beds and chairs, a one-floor building hosting a changing room, a well furnished kitchen, a fitness room, and a bathroom. Nearby on the lawn is a large, stone-made barbecue allowing for dining out al fresco with a hearty Tuscan meal and a glass of world renowned wine from Lupicaia-Castello del Terriccio. nAll the villas on the estate are completely independent of each other so as to ensure optimum privacy for the guests. They also have unrestricted views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the main islands of Tuscany, Elba, Capraia, Gorgona and the French island Corsica. The villas can be booked together to accommodate up to 32 guests, or separately (sharing the pool between them). All four villas have a south-facing patio covered by flowers, an ideal place for relaxing and admiring the view, sunbathing or dining al fresco. The villas are different in size and layout, but all offer laundry facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, Satellite TV, and bathrooms with soaps, hairdryer and towels. An Internet Key is available upon request. nPlease be advised, in order to enure a quality environment and optimum vacation experience for all guests, a signed Code of Conduct (outlining a few, simple rules) will be required from all guests. nThe property is overlooked by an experienced resident housekeeper, Guilio, and his wife, Marinella. Giulio oversees the maintenance of the villas and garden, and Marinella, who is known for her cooking skills, coordinates and does maid services for the guests. There is also a sitting room with an open fireplace and French windows that open onto a west-facing terrace with panoramic views over an unspoiled valley. One bathroom has a sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. nFirst Floor: There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with two single beds [can be joined upon request] and en suite bathrooms with sink, toilet, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. The landing between them is a study area with an open fireplace and stairs to a storage area in the attic. One of the bedrooms has a view of the valley, while the other overlooks the courtyard. nThe Chapel: Constructed circa 1890, the chapel was dedicated to the Virgin of Lourdes by the Marquesa, the last member of the original family, after a pilgrimage to Lourdes cured her of cancer. During the Spanish Civil War [1936-9], the chapel was ransacked, but after the war, the Marquesa returned, refurbished the chapel with religious artifacts from her home in Madrid. The building then resumed its role as religious centre of the estate, used for wedding blessings, baptisms, and other religious services. Today, a statue of the Virgin of Lourdes presides over the altar, which is more than two centuries old. Colorful carved saints look down from the walls, and the original marble font stands beside the entrance. The chapel's vaulted roof and high windows provide subtle lighting and atmosphere for an intimate ceremony. Seating capacity is for 35 people. Power outlets are available for extra photographic lighting or taped music. n nLocated in the hills between the monumental city of Granada and the Costa Tropical, this villa is entirely private, while still enjoying easy access to bustling seaside villages. This area is one of the less modernized areas of the Spanish Mediterranean, perfect for those who want to avoid tourist traps. Within the range of a days' excursion, you'll find a huge selection of things to do and see. Most water sports can be found in Almunecar and La Herradura, while horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking opportunities abound in the hills surrounding the villa and in the Alpujarras.
