In a fantastic position overlooking the valley below is the beautiful swimming pool (12m x 6m) which is private to the villa and also has a jacuzzi corner. Villa Maraja is certainly a splendid home for a memorable holiday. Perfectly located in the countryside yet it is just 25 minutes by foot on the country paths or just 5km by road to the picturesque village of Casole d'Elsa which has a good selection of amenities. Founded in 59 ac, the city has been a thriving cultural center of Europe for hundreds of years. The marks of this era can still be seen everywhere. Some of the major sights are the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore form the 13th century, Ponte Vecchio, the eldest bridge in town, which is bordered by medieval buildings, and Piazza della Signoria, where a copy of Michelangelo's David has been put up. The Uffizi Gallery, one of the most famous galleries in the world, shows numerous important works of art. A walk out of the city centre and up on a hill to the Piazzale Michelangelo is recommendable. From there, one can enjoy stunning views of the Old Town, the cupola of the cathedral, the river Arno and Ponte Vecchio. r n r nSiena is high on the list of day trips in Tuscany as it is brimming with beauty, culture, Renaissance art and architecture. Highly recommended is a visit to the central piazza or 'Campo', the location of the famous Palio horse race, it's colourful cathedral, pretty shops and excellent restaurants.

This lovely rural settlement is just three miles from nearby Whitby and is populated with pretty sandstone cottages clustered around a main street. The community is served by the old church whilst the surrounding area provides interesting features such as the famous church of St Hedda with its unique, painted ceiling, walks through the beautiful Arncliffe Woods and the old mill on the banks of the River Esk. The spectacular North York Moors are close by, as are the many small fishing villages and resort towns of this beautiful coastline.
