Though indeed reminiscent of Shakespeare 's historic birthplace - with its vaulted, wood plank ceiling ribbed with timber trusses and humble wooden columns - the road in front of this 1980 lodge leads not to London, but to all points north where you 'll find top-notch skiing, or south to Kings Beach for water sports and shopping. nWhen you stay at Stratford, you 'll truly be living in the round. From the wrap-around deck outside, to a spacious main level where you can relax, cook, and dine in a seamless space ideal for coming together. Stoke the fire in the gas-assisted wood fireplace and sink into one of the two big couches while you sip a drink and watch the free Direct TV, a DVD, or listen to a CD on the stereo. Or, boot up the laptop and check your e-mails on the free WIFI. nWhen you 're hungry, the full, modern kitchen is right there. Arrange a hiking, kayaking or rafting trip with a local company or try something really unusual like parasailing. There are plenty of places to eat too. Kings Beach also boasts the best grocery store in North Lake Tahoe. For skiers, Northstar Resort is just five miles to the north. It 's 12 miles to Truckee, 17 miles to Squaw, 15 miles to Alpine, and 12 miles to Tahoe City.
