Description:This private and immaculate A-frame style home is ideally located on an acre bluff of the mountain side with sweeping ocean and mountain views from the southeast through the western directions. Golden granite columns and rock retaining walls, the paved driveway and decking in combination with the privacy afforded by the impressive Cypress hedge encircling the property and mature landscaping all contribute to the feel of estate living at its best. n nThe comfortable and inviting living space of this 2-level home is 3,200 sq. ft. The upstairs master suite (15 'x17 ') has a pellet stove fireplace, a California king size bed and its own private old growth redwood walled bathroom with skylights and separate shower and tub areas. The upstairs guest suite (11 'x16 ') has a queen size bed, mirrored closet doors, skylights and its own private marble tiled bathroom with pedestal sink and glass enclosed shower & tub. The downstairs master suite (15 'x16 ') also has a pellet stove and a California king size bed as well as its own private bathroom with shower & tub. The bedrooms are all spacious enough to accommodate additional bedding in the form of folding extra long twin beds with 3 memory foam mattresses or a queen size aerobed or tri-fold futon cushions when needed. The downstairs office also has a convertible sofa that can be made up into 2 extra long twin beds or 1 king size bed. (Please be sure to complete and return the Sleep Arrangement Form to the office 2 weeks prior to your arrival date. n nA large screen HDTV with a surround sound system is in the living room complete with Dish Network premium programming (local, sports and news channels, access to pay-per-view movies, HBO, Showtime, etc.). There is a BluRay DVD player & small DVD library, a VHS player, a 6-disc CD player & CD library, Sirius Satellite music and a Play Station with several games. The living room (16 'x25 ') has a vaulted ceiling, skylights, a wood burning stove insert (with a bountiful supply of wood provided), ceiling fans, a wall of windows (with top down, bottom up shades) and a sliding glass door facing the west for maximum enjoyment of the expansive ocean vista views. n nThis home offers additional amenities such as: a whole house water purification system, a soft water system, a reverse osmosis system for pure drinking water, a central heating and air filtration system, a central vacuum system, a monitored alarm system, an automatic start generator in the event of a power outage, automated landscape irrigation, both interior and exterior programmed accent lighting, a sheltered and private swimming pool, a sauna, and outdoor hot tubs, an outdoor shower, washer & drier, gas BBQ outdoor grill, a wireless DSL connection, cordless telephones with caller id & unlimited national long distance, balconies off both master suites, wrap around decking on both levels, decorative wrought iron railing on the upper decks and a game room complete with pool table and video arcade. (Sorry, operation of the indoor hot tub is complicated and therefore, is not available for guest use.) The extensive patio and deck areas offer patio tables with chairs, lounging chaises, additional chairs, a garden bench, umbrellas, a chiminea and patio heater for the ultimate comfort and enjoyment of outdoor living and dining. n n**Children must be supervised by an adult at all times during your stay.** nThe mountain lake shaped pool is completely private and sheltered by the Cypress hedge on one side, the fitness room on the other and a glass windbreak which effectively creates a series of picture perfect framed views of the gardens and ocean. Heating provided by solar panels and the solar pool cover make the pool swimable during extended warm periods of the year, usually sometime in April through as late as October. The sights and sounds of the ocean, nature and fountains along with clean, fresh air and warm waters help wash away the stresses and cares of modern day living. Next to the outdoor spa, under the canopy of an ancient Monterey Pine is an outdoor shower offering total privacy where one can bathe while taking in the wondrous beauty of the environment ~ a luxury to experience and a memory not soon forgotten. n nDisplays of sculpture, decorative artwork and fountains throughout the lush and mature gardens are in harmony with the serenity of nature, delighting the senses and enhancing a tranquil sense of well being so soothing to the spirit.

Description:The Sugar Shack has several wonderful attributes but the one we think is most significant is its location. Whether you are here to explore the interesting subtleties and delights Big Sur has to offer or you're in Big Sur to just take in the stunning beauty of the coastline this is a great perch from which to do it. Although private the Sugar Shack is not remote -it is a 5 minute drive to Highway 1. A 15 min walk west and your at one of the most dramatic beaches in California. From the Sugar Shack one can choose to explore the natural beauty of this magical place or else indulge in some of the local food or entertainment scenes that are a part of your Big Sur experience. Nepenthe, Ventana, Post's and, Our favorite, Big Sur Bakery, are only 5 minutes by car. Many popular trail-heads are also only minutes away. The Sugar Shack, itself, is nestled at the end of a 50 yard pathway from where the car is parked. It has a rise of about 50 ft so it is only for those who are active (2 minute walk). The cabin itself is 175 square ft with a sunny deck of equal size enjoying nice canyon views. It is decorated a little bit in the 'Island' style (our daughter lives in Hawaii). There is a comfortable pillow-top queen bed with top quality linens, shower, toilet, sink, dresser, closet, DVD player & Cd player. There is a refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker & electric tea pot. Also provided is a barbecue, sink & a two burner stove in the outside kitchen on the covered lanai. On the property there is a wonderful garden and orchard which you are welcome to enjoy. In conclusion: the Sugar Shack is an ideal location for those who wish to be in the center of Big Sur, namely, the Big Sur Valley and its surrounds. Although the Sugar Shack is peaceful and quiet it does not have the remote solitude some may desire. Most of our guests are active and enjoy using it as a base to explore the Big Sur Coast and Valley and return to a discreet retreat in which to relax. Some of our guests don't feel compelled to leave the Sugar Shack at all!
