An extension of the granite counter is the dining area. No need to hop up on stools here, it really is a formal dining area, with normal seating. n nThe living room is just off the kitchen. Hardwood floors, sofas, large glass windows all suggest comfort and relaxation. The office (just off the living area) has a large flat screen tv, dvd and cd, and there is wireless throughout the home. The Wine Country Airplane House is approximately 65 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and 30 minutes away from the Russian River Wine Valley. This is a unique, three story 2200 sq. ft. home surrounded by cultivated gardens, wooded areas and a pond. Spectacular views of the Bodega Valley as well as Bodega Bay, (just a short scenic 30 minute drive away) and the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean, Point Reyes, and on very clear days, you will catch a glimpse of the Farallon Islands. The Airplane House can comfortably sleep 4 adults, with a pull out queen size bed that can accomodate two more adults. . On the main floor there is a large living area with ample seating for friends and family. The master bedroom with queen size bed and the bathroom are also located on the main floor. The upper floor is actually a sleeping loft with a queen size bed where you can also lounge around enjoying a good book. The bottom floor features a large dining area, a full size, fully equipped kitchen and an area for working out including a treadmill. The lower level also has bench seats for extra lounging space. There are a number of activities in and around the Airplane House for you to enjoy should you want to venture out. A short 1 ½ mile walk will take you to an amazing grove of old growth redwoods. You will find several easy hiking trails where you can view some of the largest redwood trees in Sonoma County.

Description:This charming published cottage nestled in the hills near the Russian River is located in a 100 year old summer cabin community.The mood of the house feels as though it has been there forever yet feels fresh and stylish for today. Embracing the California Ideal of indoor outdoor living one can take in the shade of the flagstone back terrace (With adjacent BBQ area). At the covered front dining porch there is a franklin stove for outdoor fires and a table for alfresco dining. The lounge area at the dining porch is a moment to take in the panorama of the surrounding trees mountains and a glimps of the Russina river heading west to the sea. A terrific spot to watch the sun set as dinner approaches. When entering the house you are greeted by a small mud room which leads to the living room. A cozy space that has windows all around that are high and low which allow you to feel that you just might be in a tree house. The kitchen is suitable for anyone who likes to cook. And if you dont cook than western Sonoma offers a plethora of delicious food that you can take a beautiful drive to experience (without the traffic) . The wood stove provides cozy fires and the sleeping nook is just off the living room with casement windows that open wide to let the outdoors in for a nap when the late afternoon sun is streaming in. To get to the bathroom just step out the back door past the back terrace take in the surrounding landscape and down 5 stairs, the bathroom is a delight. The speakers provide music and though you are not far away you feel that you went somewhere else on the property. There are clearstory windows to let in the trees and a rustic shower with a stone floor, high shower head @ 7 feet and a port hole window to observe birds trees and sky while Deluged with water. .(the bathroom is literally next to the bedroom but it is accessable from outside and that is how you get to it). The community is mostly populated by neighbors who have been here for 2 to 3 generations, at times it can feel like you have stepped back in time. there is a beach on the river for swimming and sunning. the house is up in the hills so there is not a lot of traffic around. There is a fire road near the house that leads up to a wooded trail that leads up around the ridge of the hill. People in the neighborhood utilize the trails so there is some foot traffic and people with dogs wandering by. The landscape is thick with redwoods, various pine varieties, oaks, bay and other tree types the smell is as you would expect, lovely. Western Sonoma is beautiful country.Westside Road just minutes drive from the house taking you through beautiful landscape and wineries leads to Drycreek valley and Healdsberg. Healdsberg has a beautiful town square with chic shops and restaurants. Heading west from the house you can take in Armstrong woods in Guernville, a beautiful dappled light walk through a redwood forest. If you are Hungering for the coast about a 30 minute beautiful drive takes you to the small coastal town of Jenner where the Russian River pours into the sea. Whether sunny or shroud in fog the coast is always beautiful. Heading south on the coast one can experience the lovely coast and the numerous beaches where seals and other marine life are often there for observing. Bodega bay is further south on the coast. Heading further north offers more beautiful undisturbed coast. Heading inland from the coast offers other small towns, Occidental a charming town and Freestone is home of the wildflower bakery and Osmosis spa. the town of Graton offers Underwood restaurant and Willow wood Cafe. Both favorites, city caliber food in a casual setting in a charming town setting. Sobastopal offers up good shopping choices, Real foods, Pacific Market ( a really good local store) Safeway, Andy's produce, the village bakery, the town of .forestville has Nightingale Bakery offering up Baguette that rivals bread I have had in Paris! This is just a taste of what you can do in the region. Aside from the many things to do it is great to head back to the house and not want to leave .
