Description:Suspended between the poetry of the enchanting seascape and the echoing pages of 8th century history, Villa Capri - The Abode overlooking Capri in Massa Lubrense, is an historical address of great emotional impact, an ecceptional venue for events and celebrations, luxury vacations or exclusive weddings, for ever-lingering moments of extraordinary intensity.Situated in the village of Santa Maria Annunziata, on the furthermost point of the peninsula, which descends towards San Liberatore and the Tower of Toledo, it is set in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of Massa Lubrense: from every window and balcony, from every terrace and from the solarium, one’s eyes fall upon Capri, Ischia, Marina della Lobra and Vesuvius, which, it seems, one can touch with an outstretched hand.As one crosses the mafnificent entrance, one feels the tranquility of the place, where elegance and class unite with a past rich in history: it was right here, as the inscription on the front of the villa gives testimony, that in 1808, Gioacchino Murat, King of Naples, planned the siege against the English in the fight to recapture Capri.Signs of the regal presence are evident in the villa structure, in the furnishings and in the gardens where one can wander amongst centuries-old tree’s and enjoy moments of utter serenity, harmony and splendour.Between nature’s perfection, the poetry of the panorama’s from the terraces, the fascinating history, Villa Capri is a place in which one cannot help but feel like a king! The villa has 5 bedrooms available, each with luxury bathrooms and lounges complete with antique furniture guaranteeing a a stay of maximum relaxation. All rooms have large windows or balconies with sea views and are characterized by the wealth of furniture and vintage items and painted ceilings. One of the rooms is kept perfectly intact because it is assumed that it is precisely that which in October 1808 has stayed the king Joachim Murat . Besides the constant presence of a guardian and housekeeper, who reside in the villa and are always available to help guests, the accommodation has all comforts: swimming pool, telephone, internet connection, independent heating, car park, fine bed linen and towels, and outdoor barbecue. Built on two levels, the ground floor and first floor both have sea-view terraces. A sumptuous and historical staircase connects the ground and first floors and the solarium with its fantastic view, the stone was excavated from the coast near the beach of Marina della Lobra, and the staircase enriched with 18th century mosaics. The facade looks stupendous, especially when illuminated at night in the courtyard with its artistic wrought iron fencing, paving and centuries old olive tree. The windows and balconies give us fragments of history to reflect on: the coat of arms of the Sersale family, and two inscriptions giving testimony to when Joachin Murat, King of Naples, stayed here during the capture of Capri in 1808, one inscription from 1928 and the other from Massa Lubrense town council in 2008 to celebrate the bicentenary of the event.Because of its specific structure, the villa is not suitable for children under 6 years old.GROUND FLOORFrom past to present, beauty and elegance are constant in all environs of the Villa Capri in Massa Lubrense. From the limestone entrance, one enters through the simple and sobre 16th century doorway into a paved stone hall, the room enriched with vases, objets d’arts and antique moulds tastefully chosen to maintain the living memory of this place. To the left one reaches the first hall, adapted for small receptions, for reunions or classy events, it can aso be used as an area to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet. On entering, one’s glance is immediately captured by Capri, which through the window seems to be a something of a living painting, with its resplendant sea a-sparkle around it.Above the antique fireplace are three objects of singular historical value: the first, particularly fascinating, is the white gun discovered and attributed to Gioacchino Murat, that was left to the owner of the villa, the other two objects, two bricks discovered in the ancient stall, with the names of two horses, Alfano and Ali', who were part of the King of Naple’s cavalcade whilst staying here in Massa Lubrense. The splendid beauty of this landscape completes the hall: from the terrace one can admire the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrentine Peninsula from different angles. From the hall one can reach one of the bedrooms, resplete in period furniture and bathroom. The hall to the right of the doorway is reserved for the staff of the villa. FIRST FLOOR Solemn and enchanting, the first floor of Villa Capri - The abode overlooking Capri, is the heart of this historical building in Massa Lubrense. On this floor one finds the most glorious and spacious terraces of the villa, with a breath-taking view over the entire Gulf of Naples and the Island of Capri. Each room is steeped in history: the three bedrooms, the two comfortable bathrooms, one can alternate between the two very intimate and cosy rooms and three living area’s with period furnishings. All the area’s have windows or balconies which give a sense of being suspended above the sea.The ‘suite’ has been conserved intact and in fact one supposes that this is where Gioacchino Murat slept in 1808. Between these frescoed walls, English Commander Hudson Lowe agreed to surrender the Island of Capri to Murat. On will find the most beautiful and spacious villa terrace on this floor. The kitchen is built using typical glazed ceramics from the 19th century, primarily in azzure blue and decorated with charming motifs typical of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The period wood fireplaces leave an unforgettable sensation of stepping back in time. The kitchen has been adapted to include all modern fittings.TERRACES In this enchanting place there are two terraces, both furnished in wrought-iron tables and chairs where one can sit back and enjoy moments of sublime pleasure. The first is on the ground floor, with access from the hall: its intimate location is especially perfect for moments of relaxation. The second, on the first floor, lies across one end of the building to the other. The large area provides ample space to host open-air events and it is furnished with tables embellished with 19th century with majolica tiles. The solarium, which one accesses via the stone staircase from the first floor, is thoughtfully furnished with sunbeds, showers and towels to provide a perfect place for sunbathing. For the night, appropriately illuminated, is the ideal setting to host receptions, refreshments and of particular fascination. The roof with its two slopes, maintains its original tiles, which have bee restored. At night one can admire the stupendous night-view of Capri with a telescope and for a moment feel as Joachim Murat might have felt as he scrutinsed the battle with the English with his telescope. The pool overlooking the Gulf of Naples is nestled in a secluded corner of the gardens of Mediterranean vegetation is fully integrated with the natural environment to live moments of absolute serenity and privacy. The swimming pool with its view over the Bay of Naples is in a sheltered corner of the gardens among typical Mediterranean plants which blend perfectly with the natural landscape, allowing time in peace and privacy.THE GARDEN In an ideal atmosphere, where the blue of the sea and the sky merge and Capri and Ischia lie somewhere between, the gardens of Villa Capri in Massa Lubrense offer many enchanting opportunities where one feels in complete harmony with Nature and Life. In an open area, furnished with wrought-iron tables and chairs, hammocs and rocking-chairs, the villa garden is the perfect place to relax and revive oneself with walks amongst the age-old arbour and rare botanics, typical of the Mediterranean region.Amongst this, one can admire a centuries-old Mastic, or discover the Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unendo), which Pliny the Elder said of it: “ I can’t only eat one”, referring to the flavour of its fruit. Unmissable are the pines, cypresses, and acorn trees. Lest one not forget the hibiscus and variety of other typical Mediterranean flowers. At the entrance to the residence is a 100 year old olive tree, famous for its shape which resembles a volcano. The Villa Capri garden is further enriched with paths which provide incredible views of the hills and the village of Annunziata, in particular one can spy the ancient Tower of Toledo which dominates the entrance to Marina della Lobra. The towers one sees along the coast are typical of the area and the Lubrense territory and formed a fortified defensive against the Saracen invasions.A good example of these fortifications is Torre Turbolo, these days called Torre Capece Minutolo, in the piazza of Annunziata, not far from Villa Capri. An exceptional setting for memorable events, English weddings and classical concerts, the villa garden provides the magic to render unforgettable every aspect of an occasion. The villa's gardens are like an open air lounge, equipped with wrought iron tables and chairs, hammocks and swings, the ideal place to relax and be revitalised with walks among ancient species of trees and rare plants which are typically Mediterranean.Among these are the admirable centuries-old mastic tree with its contorted structure or the strawberry tree, which Pliny the Older called ne mangio uno solo (Arbutus unedo - I'll only eat one) because of the special succulence of its fruit. Also to be admired are pines, cypresses, and holm-oaks, besides the hibiscus and many other types of typical Mediterranean plants.Among the other plants, a centuries-old olive tree at the entrance to the villa stands out because of its volcano-like shape. The garden of Villa Capri is enriched further by its paths which give a wide view of the hill and the village of Annunziata, in particular, one can see the ancient Toledo Tower, which dominates the small harbour of Marina della Lobra. The watchtowers are a common feature of the local environment and were built for the defence of the population and clergy during the Saracen invasions.A marvellous example of these fortifications is the Turbolo Tower in the village square of Annunziata not far from Villa Capri.
