One of the bedrooms has a view of the valley, while the other overlooks the courtyard. nThe Chapel: Constructed circa 1890, the chapel was dedicated to the Virgin of Lourdes by the Marquesa, the last member of the original family, after a pilgrimage to Lourdes cured her of cancer. During the Spanish Civil War [1936-9], the chapel was ransacked, but after the war, the Marquesa returned, refurbished the chapel with religious artifacts from her home in Madrid. The building then resumed its role as religious centre of the estate, used for wedding blessings, baptisms, and other religious services. Today, a statue of the Virgin of Lourdes presides over the altar, which is more than two centuries old. Colorful carved saints look down from the walls, and the original marble font stands beside the entrance. The chapel's vaulted roof and high windows provide subtle lighting and atmosphere for an intimate ceremony. Seating capacity is for 35 people. Power outlets are available for extra photographic lighting or taped music. n nLocated in the hills between the monumental city of Granada and the Costa Tropical, this villa is entirely private, while still enjoying easy access to bustling seaside villages. This area is one of the less modernized areas of the Spanish Mediterranean, perfect for those who want to avoid tourist traps. The Sierra Nevada is host to one of Spain's best winter ski resorts, Sol y Nieve. An 18-hole golf course is located just outside Granada. This local market town is worth a visit for its Moorish castle, botanical gardens, and Roman monuments. During the 13th and 14th centuries it flourished as one of the major cities of Europe, growing rich from banking and the wool trade. The 14th century saw a great amount of construction: the Duomo, the Palazzo Publico and the Campo Square were all products of this time. Siena's glory took a tragic downturn by the end of the 14th century due to the Black Death and political upheaval. The city became little more than a rural market center. It was exactly this decline that accounts for the incredible state of medieval preservation that Siena exhibits today. Built across several hills and valleys, you will find a bit of up and down while walking through the historical center. However, the lack of traffic makes it a wonderful place to strolle28094even when packed with tourists, there is a quiet and easygoing feel. A must-see is the shell-shaped square called Il Campo. This is the focal point of the city as well as being the venue for the internationally renowned horse race, the Palio. nCasole d'Elsa hosts one of the most charming museums of the many recently opened/restyled in Siena. The art exhibited ranges from the Neolithic era to the XVII century. A visit to the attached Collegiata di Casole is also highly recommended. nColle Val d'Elsa's newer outskirts offer very few attractions, aside from the crystal manufacturinge28094but the old town/historical center, Colle Alta, deserves to be seen. Particularly interesting in Colle Alta is the Palazzo Campana, built in the XVI century by the architect Agnolo di Baccio d'Agnolo. This private building looks like a city gate, or a triumphal arch, and dominates the main street of Colle. The Cathedral shows a rich collection of paintings from the XVII century. Don't miss the dramatic and intense Nativity by Rutilio Manetti (fourth chapel on the right, looking to the main altar).

Within the range of a days' excursion, you'll find a huge selection of things to do and see. Most water sports can be found in Almunecar and La Herradura, while horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking opportunities abound in the hills surrounding the villa and in the Alpujarras. The Sierra Nevada is host to one of Spain's best winter ski resorts, Sol y Nieve. An 18-hole golf course is located just outside Granada. The city of Granada itself has a wealth of monuments, including the Alhambra Palace [Spain's most visited monument] and its gardens. Also interesting are the old gypsy quarter of Sacromonte, the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, La Alcaicieria [old silk market], the Arab baths, and an archaeological museum. For those more interested in rural wonders, few mountain villages are more impressive than those in the spectacular Alpujarra mountain region, classified by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. Toward the coast and down through the verdant Tropical Valley [full of exotic fruit orchards], you'll find Almunecar. This local market town is worth a visit for its Moorish castle, botanical gardens, and Roman monuments. To the east lies Salobrena, a picturesque white village surrounded by sugar cane fields and crowned with another Arab fortress. To the west you will find Nerja, home to one of the largest cave systems in the country, and the tallest stalactite pillar in the world. Description:This magnificent castle was built in the middle ages, in defence of the town of Gubbio against Perugia. The estate lies within a broad bend of the river Chiascio near the medieval city of Gubbio in Umbria. This region is justifiably described as the green heart of Italy. The estate spreads over 1400 acres (600 hectares) of meadows and woods, offering a variety of paths for hikes, horse riding and - most exciting - the search of white and black truffles with specifically trained dogs (we can organise this for you). Signposted paths completed by instructions given by the owner will open up this nature reserve to you, where you will be able to see deer, roe, porcupines, wild boar and pheasants. However, Umbrias cultural and gastronomic abundance is not far. Landmarks such as Gubbio, Gualdo Tadino, Nocera Umbra, Perugia, Assisi, Cortona, Spoleto and Todi can be visited in half or full day trips. The local village can be reached in 8 minutes by car. nAmidst a beautiful untouched countryside stands the castle. First mentioned in the early middle ages (1200 AC) playing a strategic role in the defence of Gubbio against Perugia, in the 15th century it became one of the favourite hunting lodges of Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino and Gubbio. His famous profile portrait by Piero della Francesca hangs in the Uffizi Museum in Florence. A few centuries later, in 1830 to be precise, Princess Giulia Bonaparte, niece of Napoleon, became the new mistress of the castle. The charming actual owners are her direct descendants. nThe castle has retained its defensive caracter from the outside, but four years of intensive renovation have turned the interior into an extremely welcoming and comfortable house for 14 to 30 guests. The castle is surrounded by a park whith century old trees, large lawns and beautiful pool which looks out over the hilly estate. The estate is signposted with beautiful walks and in the appropriate season you can even go truffle hunting with local experts. nThe accomodations are split into two buildings - the main castle, which sleeps 14, and the guest house, which stands to the side of the castle and connects to the castle through a corridor, which sleeps another 16. The most exciting rooms are of course up in the watchtower! The ground-floor kitchen is modern and functional, a professional stainless steel kitchen. It opens up onto the courtyard and the back of the castle, both equipped for outdoor meals. nThe rent includes daily maid service from Monday to Saturday as well as the preparation of breakfast and dinner.
