In a sunny position in the grounds below the house is a swimming pool (13.5m x 5.5m) complete with sun terraces and handy w.c. The grounds surrounding the house are bordered by oak woods and olive groves and there are lovely views overlooking the plain of Lucca from many corners of the estate. r n r nApartment Mela is on two floors. It is spacious but cosy and very tastefully furnished in elegant Tuscan style with many antiques, and original features such as beamed ceilings, and exposed stone walls have been retained. The ground floor consists of a fully equipped eat in country style kitchen and a few steps lead up to the living room which has a fireplace and comfortable sofas. On the first floor there are four beautiful bedrooms (two doubles, and two doubles which can convert to twins on request) and three shower rooms (two of which are ensuite). Description:Midway between Florence and Pisa, if you follow a certain unpaved road through oak woods, olive groves and fields of sunflowers, you will suddenly find yourself on an open hilltop whose glorious views of the countryside surrounding San Miniato will second your decision to holiday at Casa Fiorentina. A farming estate of 250 acres, it is situated on part of the ancient pilgrim's road to Rome, Via Francigena, and provides a sense of being far the rest of the world yet immersed in a territory rich in history and character. Home to hares, wild deer and pheasants, it is both hunting preserve as well as a place to relax, where the opportunity to hike, lie by the pool with a good book or explore the local culture provides a holiday to suit everyone. nOne side of the main villa at Casa Fiorentina is made of bricks and a wide glass door is a welcoming entryway to the largest of the apartments. From the entry hall a stone staircase leads to the first floor living room, which is dominated by an enormous fireplace and a group of sofas and easy chairs near large windows. A large, fully equipped kitchen with marble sink and table reminds you of ancient times, when large families used to eat all together at the end of a long day of work in the fields. Three of the bedrooms, each with private bath or shower room, are situated at the top of the staircase to the left, while the fourth bedroom is off the living room. A large umbrella, a table for 8 and a barbeque are located in the private space just outside the house. nAll guests share the large pool, located 50 meters from the villa, sheltered from winds yet exposed all day to the sun. The large garden around the pool offers a privileged viewpoint from which you can contemplate the Tuscan countryside and savour the serenity it offers. For this reason the owner decided to build just here a large wooden platform, the perfect spot for dinners and barbeques. Near the swimming pool there are also a gazebo and small wooden house with bathroom, shower and a fridge. nSix kilometres away lies the medieval town of San Miniato, birthplace of Matilde di Canossa and Francesco Sforza and famous for its truffles, which we recommend you to taste during the Feast of the Truffles in November. In the surroundings there are some true jewels of history and architecture to discover. Montaione has a small historical centre well known for its craftsmanship, and ancient neighboring villas and a remarkable number of organic farms. Certaldo, the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio, has a very fascinating well-preserved medieval castle and a thriving cultural centre, home of the theatre and music street festival, the Mercantia. A bit farther down the road are Volterra, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. With Florence and Pisa are only a half-hour away and Siena, Lucca and the sea-cost of Versilia an hour's distance, Cimabue and Casa Fiorentina is a wonderfully positioned base from which to explore.

In this section of the room on the right hand wall there is a peperino vincellaro from the Lazio region wehre they used to keep wine and water. It also has a stone basin with running water. There is also an important wardrobe of the 16thC with 2 large drawers where crockery and glassware etc are kept. Between the two sections of the room there is an elegant Louis XV walnut table. To the left of the lounge room there is an enormous 16thC Lombard fireplace in stone. In front of the fireplace there are 2 large armchairs and 2 large triple divans. Note the 18thC Piedmont trumeau. The room furnishings are completed with a Chinoiserie area with an antique Tibetan sideboard, 2 Chinese lacquered reading chairs and variuos antique oriental silk paintings. Characterizing this stupendeous room is the beautiful sloping ceiling with antique beams and bricks. All the rooms in the house have antique beams. Above the entrance a walnut 17thC freize. Antique paintings and lamps and Persian carpets complete the furnishings. The room has double doors leading into the garden. nGreen bedroom nThis is characterized by a 17thC fireplace in peperino and two 17thC carved walnut small doors above the bed which hide a niche. There is a late Empire moghany wardrobe and two Luigi Filippo bedside tables. Notice also a particular freize in walnut above the door figuring an equestrian subject. nNorth verandah nThe green bedroom leads onto a north facing verandah with a suggestive view over the pool especially in the night when the pool is illuminated and in the distance the small hill side towns are lit up. A special place to enjoy dinner. nSouth verandah nThe kitchen leads onto a southerly facing verandah which looks onto the valley and the small medieval hill top town of Monsummanoi Alto with a Romanic church. There is a dining table for eating al fresco that can can seat 14. Note the terracotta Madonna on the right wall and an antique stone trough. n nSecond floor nThey are furnished with antique furniture, paintings and Persian carpets. nFrom the entrance there is a stone staircase leading to the bedrooms It has a beautiful wrought iron 17thC bannister.
