Description:Vacation rental on the Mendocino Coast, amidst gardens, meadows & forest, 3.5 hours north of San Francisco. Our Quiet Meadow Cottage is located on the spectacular Mendocino Coast in a beautiful rural area just 1.5 miles from Pacific Ocean on 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood forests, with horses and llamas next door on our quiet, dead-end, paved road. We are 5 miles from the fishing village of Albion, 12 from historically preserved coastal village of Mendocino (an art, wine and food lover's paradise), and 20 to 30 miles from Fort Bragg’s harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, the historic Skunk Train, two virgin redwood preserves, and many Anderson Valley wineries. Our guest cottage is clean, cozy and quiet with a queen bedroom, tub & shower bathroom, small kitchen, sunny deck, and a comfy, sun-filled living room (with 2 additional day-beds). No other houses are in sight (besides the owners' next door), deer and wild turkeys frequent the meadow in front, nearby are extensive flower and vegetable gardens, and at night what you usually hear most is the distant ocean surf. Costs: For one or two people during the off-season (Oct-March, excluding holidays) it's $125 first night and $75 each additional night, or $500 per week. During the peak season (May-Sept holidays) it's $150 for the first night, $100 each additional night, and $650 per week. There is a 2-night minimum for holidays and peak season weekends. If there are more than two people and extra bedding is needed, add a one-time fee of $25 per bed ('tho if you bring that extra bedding, there is no fee), and in all cases add a 11% county bed tax. There are no other fees. To keep the cottage fresh for all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted. More photos can be sent to you upon request, and several photos of the property, garden and Mendocino Coast area can be viewed at the owners' home-exchange website: Note that we have video and DVD players and a TV set for movies, but we do not get TV reception or cable. Cell phone reception is sketchy-- it works for some carriers and not for others. There is a phone in the cottage in case you want to give it to family or friends, and which you may use freely for local calls. The internet is accessible thru a high-speed Internet connection via a satellite dish. The cold Pacific Ocean 1.5 miles away keeps our summer daytime temp below 80 degrees-- 60 degrees during foggy days-- and nights can go as low as 45 in summer and 30 in winter. Bring layers. The cottage is heated centrally by a Monitor propane heater whose thermostat you can adjust to your desired temperature. And we do provide all bedding, towels, two bathrobes, hair-dryer, iron and ironing board. You're also welcome to use our propane BBQ, 2 bikes and canoe. The check-in time is 3pm, and check-out is noon. We do not provide breakfasts or meals. The kitchen includes a propane stovetop, mini-fridge, sink, microwave and toaster ovens, stick blender, toaster, coffee maker and tea kettle, plus sugar, salt & pepper, and usually some teas. However, you need to bring your own coffee, cream and all the food you want to eat. Many restaurants are available in the area, and Albion village has a good little grocery store and deli. Driving directions are at the bottom. We wish you an enjoyable time in the country, Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves. We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks. This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property. You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift. Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges. This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely.

Description:Come down my quiet country lane and you will find our three story custom designed country home sitting in a beautiful meadow surrounded by the redwood forest. My seven acre property is bounded on two sides by Jackson State Forest and is completely private with forest all around yet its just minutes from town. Inside you will enjoy high ceilings, large beam construction and all the welcome of a warm country home. Downstairs has a large well equipped kitchen, and open dining area with sliding glass door to the south facing deck. You can eat at the small round table in the kitchen or the larger dining table in the adjacent area. There is country antique furniture in the room, giving it old style charm. Step down into a large living room with cathedral ceiling and a seven foot grand piano. You'll find a flat screen TV with DVR, Stereo and DVD. The couch here is a queen size hide-a-bed and there is an extra long twin bed in this room also. The downstairs bathroom sports a redwood shower with a window that looks out into the forest (there are no visible neighbors), wooden counter top and a hand thrown pottery sink. Upstairs you will find two large bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed and country antique furniture. Glass french doors lead into the attached solar collecting greenhouse. This house was a solar house experiment from the 1980's. Heat is collected in the greenhouse and blown to a rock bed under the house which radiates heat up through the floor. It helps with the heat but we have added a forced air heating system as well. Antique french doors with leaded pane glass lead from the greenhouse into the bathroom. The bathroom features a Mexican paver tile floor deep blue tiled counter tops and a large tiled shower with bench. There is a 6' claw foot bathtub which adds oodles of charm to the room. Across the hall from the bathroom is an additional bedroom with a queen size bed, lots of books and a rocking chair. A loft above provides and interesting design feature in the room. Both rooms have lots of light even with windows all around. The third bedroom is in an attic space above the sun room with glass french doors that look out over the whole property and a skylight over the queen size bed so you can take in the night sky. You will feel like you are living with the birds as they fly by at eye level. There is a 27 foot yurt/art studio on the property which can be added for your use for $30 extra per night. It is full of art supplies and musical instruments, including another piano. This property provides many delightful ways to entertain yourself through out your stay. The house has satellite TV and internet. Rural internet is challenging, slower, no doubt than what you are used to but works well for email and searching the web. It doesn't work for streaming media. You will be a 5-7 minutes drive from the town of Mendocino, with its headlands, art galleries, shops and restaurants, close to Van Damme and Russian Gulch State Parks, twenty minutes from Ft. Bragg with more beaches, parks, a beautiful botanical garden and more. There are beautiful walks right out your door that lead you through Jackson State Forest and to Big River State Park, however, trails here are not marked. There is satellite wireless internet access, which is slow but works for most things. It will not stream movies. Cell phone coverage is spotty. There is reception for some cell phone companies, Verizon works in some areas, AT$T has no reception here. Guests can use the house phone for calling within the country. There is much to do and explore or you can just retreat in this beautiful little hideaway. When you register with airbnb the 11% county bed tax is already included in your room rate. Minimum 2 night stay. Please communicate before booking.

You are a two minute walk from the redwoods of Jackson State Forest, and a 2 mile drive from the Mendocino Coast beaches and the gorgeous botanical gardens. Enjoy wine-tasting, surfing, kayaking, or hiking at any time of year, or check in advance to find out which of the many festivals are happening before you visit (crab, mushroom, whale, film and music festivals, local history days, paul bunyan days, etc). Well-behaved pets are ok, but should be on leash when not in the house. No smoking inside. We are about 8 minutes away from Fort Bragg, and are about 15 minutes from the village of Mendocino. We're about a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco or Oakland airports. Santa Rosa also has a small airport (Alaska/Horizon main carrier). We are 2.5 hours from Santa Rosa. We are gay-friendly, tourist-friendly, family-friendly! Please let me know in advance if you have any special needs or requests to make your stay enjoyable. Description:A roadside attraction without the distraction. A car goes by, a bicyclist or walker passes, swallows dip and dart. This circa 1890s former blacksmith shop is twenty feet to the peaceful Pacific Coast Highway, and a quick walk to a secluded beach. Westport boomed in 1878 and was the largest town north of San Francisco, but truth be told, not much happens here any more. Open and airy and cozy and happy, packed with strange and varied art work. Enjoy cooking and napping, reading or staring, and the endless changing Pacific off the deck. Writers, escapists, and creative types will appreciate the solitude of the detached artist studio. One bedroom is cozy and dark, the other bright, with a view to the ocean and a loaded bookshelf. The kitchen has a 5-burner gas stovetop, large convection oven, and coffee maker. The living area has a long table for a gourmet spread or a project. Bath with shower, washer and dryer, and the the Lost Coast's largest collection of those plaster fish. Watch a DVD or listen to music. Play a game. Be inspired. Or just sit on the porch. Outside you will find a 100 square foot artist studio with another large deck. There is a writing desk inside, chaise lounge and a stereo system for ipod/computer hookup with two indoor speakers. Great space to do some morning yoga or painting. The sandy beach is just short walk and down the bluffs to stairs. Buy local! The Westport General store sells beer and staples and makes great organic sandwiches and pizzas to order. The Westport Hotel and Old Abalone Pub serves dinners on the weekends. Off high-way parking for two cars. Note that the side yard is a sculpture construction site for The Westport Whale, a future roadside attraction. This place has all the basic amenties without the frills. There is a satellite internet connection for basic emails but the speed is can very slow for streaming/uploading information, especially on foggy days. The house is definitely a work in progress. It is my Dream and my favorite place to be in the whole world. I hope you will enjoy it too.
