Description:This quiet, rustic cabin is situated in the middle of an organic garden and yard in the heart of North Berkeley’s “Gourmet Ghetto”, just minutes from numerous fine restaurants and shops, and a 15 minute walk to UC Berkeley campus and BART. I am a light sleeper and I hear no traffic, no freeways, no adjoining neighbors at night. It's wonderful. The cottage has its own entrance, kitchenette and bathroom with a fabulous, strong shower. The main room is fully furnished, with a sofa, coffee table and a 1934 Bush & Lane piano. The kitchenette is directly across from the living area and it’s lovely to drink morning tea on the couch and look across through the kitchen windows to the garden. On warm days, open the double doors at the end of the studio to view the garden. Or simply sit outside. The bedroom is separated from the main area by a closet and a curtain, and the bathroom is directly adjacent to the bedroom. It is very cozy in the bedroom which, just fits a 2-year old Keetsa organic memory foam mattress and pillows and a bedside table. If you have long arms you can reach the bathroom door from the bed! (read: small but comfortable!). There is wireless internet, a fully stocked kitchen with a two-burner stove and oven and fridge with freezer. I have lived here 5 years and I love it. I have no pets but the garden is shared with the Victorian house in the front of the property, and they have a grumpy but harmless older dog. He barks when you walk through the gate past the house but that’s it. He occasionally comes into the yard/garden with his owner and attempts to catch the squirrels. If you walk down the garden path and through the gate onto Vine Street, you will find yourself in the heart of the Gourmet Ghetto (so named because of all the gourmet restaurants and shops), and the lovely neighborhood of North Berkeley, with beautiful Victorian homes and charming gardens. Visit the original Peet's Coffee and Tea, opened April 1st, 1966, just half a block away! Other famous restaurants and establishments include Chez Panisse, The Cheeseboard, Cafe Gratitude, The Local Butcher Shop, Gregoire, the Thursday farmer's market, etc. It would be silly to charge extra for breakfast in my cottage as there are a dozen delicious places to get anything from gourmet coffee, muffins, bagels from Saul's, Masse's French pastries, or simply eggs and toast! It’s a 15 minute walk to UC Berkeley Campus, and to North Berkeley or Downtown Berkeley Bart stations which can take you to San Francisco in approximately 30 minutes. San Francisco is an easy drive as well (traffic permitting, of course) of approximately 45 minutes, as is the North Bay and scenic Marin County with Muir Woods, Mt Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, etc. There is usually easy street parking within 1-2 blocks of the cottage. Come enjoy all that the Bay area has to offer from this charming pied-a-terre.

Spacious back porch with plants and hummingbird feeder ideal for outdoor meals or just a cup of morning coffee. You’ll have the place all to yourself. Location: Middle of the Mission District (near Guerrero and 19th) 5 1/2 blocks from BART 2 1/2 blocks from major bus lines and Muni. 1 block from Dolores Park Surrounded by nightlife, coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, taquerias, etc. Good stuff: • Quiet, especially for this location. Apartment is at back of a 2-unit building, so street and building noise is minimal. EDIT - The upstairs neighbors just had a a baby. The baby cries sometimes, but you can barely hear it in the bedroom. I occasionally sleep with earplugs and then can't hear it at all. • Full kitchen with gas stove, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, pots, pans, wine glasses, and pretty much everything else you could need. • Help yourself to sugar, flour, oil, etc. if you decide to cook. (If you use a lot of something, like say, spices, please replace before you leave.) • Stereo you can plug your iPod or laptop into • Wireless internet • Queen bed • Central heat • The back porch really is lovely • Love seat couch • Dining room table that handles 4 comfortably and 6 if you really want to • Closet space to hang clothes • I’ll provide towels and sheets Downsides: • Bathroom is pretty plain – no tub, only shower • No TV • Parking not included and street parking tough in this neighborhood • White carpet throughout – guests are expected to be conscientious about not tracking in dirt/mud • No more than 2 people staying overnight, no more than 6 people in the apartment at any point.
