Description:Come experience a peaceful and quiet get-a-way above the fog line in the Aptos mountains with a million dollar view! The cottage overlooks an old apple orchard that is surrounded by majestic redwood trees. Relax on a large private deck overlooking the peaceful valley and soak in the sunshine. Lay around by the pool or swim in a beautiful setting. Take a walk along the quiet country road. Whatever you choose to do during your stay, there is something about this peaceful little haven that will sooth your senses. Apple Orchard Cottage is located 5 miles from the historic and quaint little town of Aptos, CA. It is a 15 minute drive from Aptos Village of which 2 miles wind through a lush canopy of trees on a paved, one lane private road. It is 15 minutes from town and the beach. Aptos has great restaurants, a theater, shopping, coffee shops, Safeway and CVS as well as a natural food store. Aptos is centrally located to Santa Cruz and Monterey. The cottage is single level and has close and easy access from parking. The Apple Orchard Cottage, also referred to lovingly as “The Granny Unit”, shares property with our home but has plenty of privacy. Amenities: Kitchen (full and functional): Gas stove/oven, microwave refrigerator- full size coffee pot and coffee bean grinder toaster. The kitchen is also stocked with an assortment of basic condiments—olive oil, vinegar, sugar, salt 100% cotton 500 thread count sheets full mattress encasement from “Protect A Bed” the ultimate in bedbug and dust mite protection technology. The comforter is either in a cotton duvet cover (or has a cotton sheet over the top) which is washed after each guest. Pillows are double cased too. Bathroom: Large tiled shower, soap, shampoo and conditioner hair dryer Living room: Sofa love seat and day bed with trundle. 30 HD Flat Screen TV with DVD player. TV may come in sporadically but cannot be counted on. Deck-Private: The deck wraps around the front and side of the cottage and has a stunning view. There is a table and chairs under a canopy that allows filtered sun. Also 2 Zero Gravity lounge chairs to relax in. Smoking is NOT permitted INSIDE the cottage however, it is allowed OUTSIDE on the deck, away from the cottage windows. The swimming pool on premises is available for use. The water temperature varies throughout the year as it is SUN HEATED ONLY. It reaches 80 degrees in the summer as it has full sun exposure all day! In the off seasons or when there is no sun, it can be chilly and enjoyed by polar bears. Maybe someday we will have it heated year round. The pool is a shared area but is not used very often, so don't be surprised if you seem to have it all to yourself! This is paradise for the person who loves wildlife, as in nature not partying. Deer abound. Bobcats are frequently seen wondering the property. Wild turkeys come and go. Bunnies frolic around the property most the day. Birds are abundant. Swallows arrive in April, leave in July. About 10 hummingbirds live here year round. We have a quiet and friendly dog named Riley that wanders the property, but he will not be able to get into your private area. We cherish the quiet and solitude. The Apple Orchard Cottage is truly a rare and peaceful get-away from the hustle and bustle of life. The Cottage is in a country and rural setting but has all amenities needed for comfort, relaxation and enjoyment. Your hosts are near enough should you need anything, yet far enough to ensure your privacy. Pets are allowed by special permission. They must be trained, housebroken, no fleas and not allowed on the furniture or left in the cottage alone. Cell phone service is sporadic at best with all services but Verizon. Verizon works great most (98%) of the time. There is no land line phone in the cottage. Wi-Fi wireless can be accessed from the cottage and sometimes from the pool area. The Wi-Fi service accommodates BASIC internet usage only, and is NOT intended for streaming, gaming or any other high bandwidth usage. As an added value to our Cottage Guests, we are providing at no additional cost to you...drum roll please....2 all day guest passes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! You can go all day or just drop in for a couple hours. The aquarium is about a 45 minute drive south on Highway 1. Just let us know if you would like to use the passes and for what day(s) and they will be provided. Enjoy!

Shaded by Oak and Madrone trees and next to a Redwood grove, enjoy the great outdoors on the large deck or by taking a hike in the woods. (We have multiple acres next to land without fences.) We are going on a vacation ourselves March 29th to April 1st, so if you want to stay here for the March 30th to April 1st weekend, we will only accept your reservation if it also includes Thursday, March 29th. We currently have the weekend blocked, so if you want to stay here for the 3 nights, send us a message and we will open up the days. (Please read all of this description before making a reservation.) Santa Cruz county, we just discovered, considers places like ours taxable for the Transient Occupancy Tax that is charged at hotels in our county. So since airbnb isn't set up yet to charge this, and we are not allowed to include it in the rates we charge, we will need to collect this 9.5% tax from any future guests that stay here. It is due upon arrival. The cozy and clean semi-rustic cabin has a loft under a geodesic dome (the mushroom cap) with a double bed, which is a cotton futon with 1 of latex foam and 21/2 gel memory foam on top. (It is now softer for you folks who like a soft cushiony bed.) We provide clean sheets and pillow cases: you can chose either smooth cotton sheets or cotton flannel. Plenty of blankets are also provided. In the loft, we have a 22 LCD Screen with a DVD player (no TV) for movies. (We have some movies you can view as well.) We also recently added an air filter which ionizes and cleans the air. On the main floor (a Pentagon) is a couch that doubles as a narrow futon (which could sleep a third person for an extra $10.), as well as a mini kitchenette. Here you will find a double hotplate, small refrigerator, toaster oven, blender, Hot Air Popcorn Popper, French Coffee press, a salad spinner - even a mixer- and all the dishes and equipment you would need to prepare a snack or a meal. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We now have new barbecue grill on the deck. We also provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, raisins, spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks and filtered well water. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and flushing toilet. We provide towels, soap, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends. Keep in mind that Friday and Saturday nights are $100. each.( $110 as of June 1st) Therefore, to stay here on the weekend will cost $200. plus the $30. cleaning fee plus 10% that airbnb will charge you ($23.). So the total will be $253. To stay for 2 days mid-week costs a grand total of $220. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Memorial Day and Labor Day.) Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, restaurants, a theater, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as 10,000 acre Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We have about 60 - 80 year-round.) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus Hummers as well. So you have got to see our Hummingbird Airport! Please, no smoking in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin. Some cell phones don't work here, but if you need to make local calls, you can use our home phone. You can get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. We do have free wifi in the cabin. Pet the goats and enjoy the very fresh air. We will give you some goat milk if you would like to try it. Tired of the heat? Since we are on the edge of the fog belt, it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds chirping and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional saw. : )
