Apartment del Campo is located just steps from the heart and soul of the medieval town of Siena, the Piazza del Campo. The Piazza is host not only to a plethora of restaurants, cafes and shops, but is also home of the famous Palio horserace, run since ancient times. Whether your purpose in Siena is to explore this fascinating area of Italy, or to witness the spectacle of the Palio, guests will appreciate the apartment's envious locale. Included in the price are water, gas, electricity, a weekly change of linens, final cleaning and central heating. Extra beds are available at 10 euros/night, payable locally. After arriving at a charming lane in the Contrade dell'Onda section of Siena (the oldest part of town), 21 steps up lead to the entrance of Apartment del Campo. Cozy and intimate, the living room is furnished with a comfortable couch, chairs and satellite TV. The kitchen corner is nicely equipped with a stove, fridge/freezer, small oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, and a table for four. There is one double bedroom with a queen size bed, a single sofabed in the living room, and a detached bathroom with shower and washing machine. For a spectacular view of the city, head up 12 steps to the panoramic rooftop terrace, complete with table, chairs and barbecue for al fresco dining under the stars. Parking is limited and a challenge to find. Lots are available outside the city walls. The Palio di Siena is one of the greatest horse races in Italy, if not the world. 17 contrades, or neighborhoods, in Siena compete for the ten spots available in the race, run twice a year (July 2 and August 16). A magnificent pageant precedes the race and attracts vast crowds from around the world. Both horse and rider are dressed in the colors and arms specific to their contrade and the winner is awarded a banner of painted silk, which is newly created for each race. Dating back to 1650, the Palio di Siena is a vibrant Italian tradition with the winning contrade given boasting rights for the year.
