Description:Residenza La Geppa is a recently restored country house dating back to the 1600s - parts of it even earlier. Originally it was the country residence of the local land-owning family, the Travaglinis. For its time it was the height of luxury with its painted ceilings, frescos and wall decorations and now these have been restored to their original splendour. However, we have gone away from only one bathroom (which is still preserved complete with the original hole in a wooden bench!) for the entire property and now there are 14 lovely bath or shower rooms. The property is made of of 4 units The Palazzo is the largest of the properties and is on three floors. The entrance from the courtyard is to the middle floor where there is a large sitting room, a study, a double bedroom with en suite shower room and a twin bedroom. Up the terracotta steps to the second floor you will find 3 more bedrooms, two doubles and a spacious triple, each with its own en suite bath or shower room.On this floor is also the beautifully restored little chapel, complete with altar and cloverleaf window. Down the steps from the ground floor you come to a beautifully decorated vaulted corridor with doors off to a twin bedroom with shower room and to the old kitchens. The restoration of the kitchens has retained the original fireplace, bread oven, terracotta sink and the tiled hotplate surface (now fitted with a modern 5-burner gas hob. There is also a modern electric oven and a large fridge-freezer. A large kitchen table is a great place to dine if the weather is not good enough to use the marble-topped table in the private gardens just through the glass door. As all the properties the Palazzo is well equiped. For entertainment there is a TV with cable and a dvd player with cinema sound system. The old kitchen. Obviously you can self-cater - the kitchens are all well equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, etc.Local restaurants are excellent and varied. Il Sovrano is good value and only a few minutes drive away. Not much further, in Sant'Anatolia is the Convento di Santa Croce, a recently restored old Convent which is beautiful- the food is excellent and well-served too.
