Description:Walk the block or so to the shoreline by the nearby, historic marina. Look down. nIf you see a pretty red and yellow stone, then you 're re-living the experience of someone in 1860 who, after discovering Chalcedy (a semi-precious stone) named this place Carnelian Bay. And don 't be surprised if you see a sleek, wooden-hulled motorboat plying the waters. It could very well be a Gar Wood, named for the British inventor and racer, Garfield Wood. You are, after all, in Carnelian Bay: the place to be in the 1920s and '30s if you had a fast boat and wanted to show what it could do. But you don 't have to own a speedboat to enjoy this 3-bedroom, 2-bath condo right by beautiful Carnelian Bay. nIf a mountain man had retired to live by the shore, he could very well call this home. From the moose head mounted on the wall, flanked by two snowshoes, to the log post beds and wooden stools, this condo is an eclectic mix of luxury and lodge. But mountain men never had it so good! You won 't miss any modern amenities. Sink into the two plush couches, watch cable TV, a DVD, or even a VHS tape. Check your email with the WIFI. (Not too long, though. You 're on vacation.) Have a picnic on Patton Beach, or take a hike on Tahoe Rim Trail or Martis Creek Wildlife Area Trail. In August, the bay looks the way Garfield Wood saw it when the city hosts the Concours d 'Elegance and Wooden Boat Festival. nAnd that 's just summer! Carnelian Bay is within 12 miles of all the area ski resorts, so welcomes winter sports aficionados of all stripes. Anytime of year, you can head a few miles east over the Nevada line and try your luck in the casinos of Crystal Bay.
