Description:Welcome to Finnish countryside! The cottage is in Oravi, 45 kilometers from Savonlinna in eastern part of Finland. Cottage is by the famously beautiful Lake Saimaa in idyllic countryside. The lake is only 15 metres from the cottage terrace! The cottage has electricity but no running water. It is decorated with taste and as a feeling of a traditional Finnish cottage with is wooden design and closeness of the forest and lake. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with the fridge, oven, microwave and all the pots, pans and cutlery you need to cook. It has a living room, dining area and a fireplace. The cottage also has a heater/cooler. There is one double bed and a sofa, where two kids or one adult can sleep. The cottage is about 50m2 big. It has a beautiful terrace with class windows to enjoy your breakfast or sit in the evening. In the beautiful yard there are tables and chairs for you to sit in or have dinner. There are some flowers and the yard is big enough for the children to play. In the yard there is also a extra building that has two beds. You also can use the grill and make your dinner outside. There is a separate sauna building, where you can enjoy the real finnish experience of bathing! Sauna is heated by wood as they traditionally have been in Finland. After the sauna you can hop for a swim in the lake and enjoy the midnight sun and the sounds of nature at the terrace of the sauna. There is no shower in the sauna, but the water is pumped from the lake so you don't have to carry the water inside to wash up. The beach has a huge platform to sit and enjoy the great views of Saimaa. It is easy to go for a swim just by stairs from the platform. The beach is not very suitable for really small children to swim since the water is deep. The toilet is a separate small toilet building. The toilet is traditional but modern bio/compost toilet, where there is no water to flush. You just throw some moud designed for bio toilet use to the toilet after you are done. The toilet is a compost: every year it is emptied and the result is clean compost mold for the garden :) The small town of Oravi is about 3 kilometers from the cottage. There is one small supermarket and a restaurant. From Oravi town you can hire a canoe, a boat or make trips to famous and extraordinary beautiful nature park of Linnansaari. In the only restaurant of Oravi, there are some live music evenings and karaoke nights during the summer. From the cottage you can just go straigt to forest to pick berries, mushroom or just go hiking and enjoying the nature. There is a small boat you can use to row in the lake. You can fish in the lake if you wish. You can spot birds, small animals and bats in the evening. And moskitos :) If you are really lucky, you can spot the trace of very endangered species of Finnish lake seal, which lives in this area of Lake Saimaa! There are only 150 of the lake seals left in the whole world. The culture life and restaurants and shops of Savonlinna are only 45 minutes drive away. Savonlinna is 350 km from Helsinki, 160km from Kuopio, 140km form Joensuu and 160 km from Lappeenranta. This place is a great place to enjoy the peaceful Finnish countryside. There is art school, Arabia factory outlet, parks and lots of old wooden houses in this charming area. There are very good tram and bus connections which take you to the Helsinki city center in 15-20 minutes. Buses run through the night. A grocery shop is almost across the street from the apartment. The apartment is fully furnished and there is a double bed. Additional two persons can be accommodated on sofa and mattress on the floor. Kids are welcome! Description:There is no better place to visit especially during the Christmas period. A truly magical place, deep inside the arctic circle, surrounded by National Park, where the wonderful scenery, the magical atmosphere and, of course the cold, cold air combines to take your breath away, a place where all your Christmas dreams can come true. A traditional resort nestled in stunning woodland at the base of the Ylläs fell around the Äkäslompolo (lake), surrounded by the seven fells of Ylläs, Kesanki, Lainio, Kulaas, Kuer, Pyhatanturi and Aakenus. As far as the skiing goes Yllas fell boasts the longest down hill run in Finland, you can ski from the Yllässki side of the fell to Iso Ylläs on the other side, the altitude is about 718m, there are 69 runs of which 28 are flood lit. If cross country skiing is your thing there are 320km of groomed tracks winding their way around Äkäslompolo, 38km are flood lit, with 13 cafes (Kota’s) on route. The snow starts to melt at the beginning of May, heralding the start of Spring, when the soft green landscape of Lapland is one again revealed. Summer in Ylläs is pleasantly warm. You can escape the rat race to the peace and solitude where the reindeer outnumber the locals. You can go hiking in the mid-night sun, a truly unique experience. There are plenty of other activities such as Nordic walking, roller skiing, fishing, golfing or just relaxing in the sauna. The mid-night sun is between June and July. Our luxury log cabins are located in the picturesque woodland setting of Yllas, with access at the back of the cabins to the cross-country ski tracks. There is a 718 bus stop at the end of the road where you can catch the bus to the ski fields, the journey takes about 15 minutes. The supermarket is about 800 meters away. Very close to Santa’s house, so if you look carefully through the trees you might catch a glimpse of the man himself. Cabins comprise of either one or two twin bedrooms downstairs, there is a mezzanine area overlooking the open-plan lounge with a further two or three beds and a sofa bed. All of the cabins have an upstairs toilet and the larger cabins have a separate toilet downstairs. Blitzen cabin is wheelchair friendly - During the spring of 2010 we have been working on our Blitzen cabin to make it suitable for wheel chair users. The shower area has been modified to allow wheel chair access, there is a shower stool and grab handles to make it easier in the shower. We also have a shower wheel chair available on request. The downstairs toilet has also been fitted with grab handles. We have a ramp for the front steps to allow wheel chair access, but you will need assistance getting up the ramp. The ramp is only available on request. We can also arrange airport and station transfers that are suitable for wheel chair users. The trip companies we use are also used to assisting guests that use wheel chair and make every effort to make it an enjoyable experience. Each cabin comes with fully equipped kitchen including fridge freezer, dishwasher, cooker, washing machine and microwave oven. There is a drying cabinet for all your winter gear and a sauna for you to relax in at the end of a long day.
