Description:Summers at the lake—it’s as American as apple pie and the Fourth of July. Bring back fond memories of summers past by visiting your resort at Clear Lake. An eutropic lake—meaning its waters are warm and full of life—the lake is the largest natural freshwater lake within California’s borders. Among the tules, willows, cottonwoods and oaks, you’re likely to find a paradise you thought had long since vanished. With the Bartlett Mountains as a backdrop and a beautiful turn-of-the-century, mission-style lodge as its centerpiece, the resort recalls the rural California that Mark Twain found so endearing. No doubt, you’ll want to wet a line during your vacation. But once you’ve released your scaly friends, try hiking, birding, bicycling, golfing … you get the picture. Also, check out Crazy Creek soaring glider rides in Middletown. There’s plenty to do—or not do—while at Clear Lake. You may just want to slather on the sunscreen, put your feet in the water, lay back and soak up the experience. The house has a master bedroom with a queen size bed with attached bathroom with shower. The guest bathroom has a shower and tub. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds and view of the lake. The living room has a working woodburning stove inserted into a fireplace and heats the house really well and also features large windows to see view of lake. The garage is built below the house, so there are stairs to climb to get into the living quarters to take advantage of the lake/mountain/orchard views. The house has a new heater and air conditioner. It also has a new front door and two new garage doors, and a new deck. There is a kitchen with microwave, wall oven, stove top, dishwasher, refrigerator, and everything needed to cook your own meals. There is also a washer and dryer for convenience. It is a country setting, so you will see wild turkeys and deer roaming around. In the fall, you will be able to gather walnuts from several of our walnut trees. There are several casinos not far away. Also there are several restauants to choose from and small shops to hunt for hidden treasures. If you like boating, there are several places to launch ones boat. Bass fishing is very popular and there is Bass fishing competions yearly. The weather gets hot in the summer time, so great place to achieve a tan. There is a state park and county park not far from our house. It is a great place to take long hikes and launch boats. There is a home owner's club house where one can go swimming and play ping pong when it is open. They have several functions a year, such as Saint Patrick's Day Party, Xmas Party/Crafts Fair, etc. There is a great deck in the front and side of our house to enjoy the weather and views and a swing in the front yard. It is very peaceful and tranquil in our neighborhood. There is a bus service one can catch at different locations that will take one to several different areas around the lake. We love going to our lake house, where it is so peaceful and calm.

Description:You are welcome to Vista House, our private hilltop wine-country retreat overlooking Clear Lake. Here we revel in splendid isolation and the abundant artistic inspiration of 360° lake and mountain views. With only a 5-minute trip to town, we love the rural feel with no traffic. Clean air affords 100 mile visibility and breathtaking stargazing from the lower terrace on cool summer nights. Many of our paintings were done right here, as the boomerang-shaped living / dining area is surrounded by more than 40 feet of glass. Just outside the window is a 12-foot serpentine boulder, such as can be found in Tuscany and areas of Scotland. Fine furnishings, a complimentary bottle of local wine, and original art civilize the rugged setting. Spend a cool morning on the deck off the Dining Room or sip hot coffee in the garden with the birds playing in the fountain and soaring in adjacent valleys below! Swimming is great in nearby Blue Lakes, or test your luck at catfish and bass fishing. Hike, bike, or try water skiing and sailing out on the huge waters of Clear Lake. Birdwatching is also excellent at Rodman Slough a few minutes away. Visit one of the many wineries to learn in a friendly and unhurried way. Come back and relax on the upper terrace or the hammock with a glass of local wine and fine chocolates, and watch as the sun shadow creeps up the hills surrounding the lake. Moonrise follows dramatically, illuminating the expanse of water. Lie on the lounge chairs on the lower terrace for spectacular stargazing, or witness the meteor showers in August! The views are uniquely incredible from every room – even the kitchen. If you like to cook there are many extras like a panini press, blender and food processor. The private Master Suite with a new queen Tempurpedic mattress has a totally new luxurious bath with glass shower, complemented by travertine & slate. A new redwood deck out the glass door showcases the southern end of the lake. Also tucked into this suite is the laundry. Sample eclectic reading in the second bedroom / library which is equally spacious with a Beautyrest queen mattress The main bath with tub and shower is one door down. Satellite TV in each bedroom as well as the Living Room (with DVD). A comfortable sofa can expand sleeping options, and there is an inflatable mattress also available. Luxurious comfort to end the most strenuous or most relaxing day! If you must work a little there is free long distance and Wifi. But we hope you will be inspired to work on creating your own response to this unique experience.

Description:Two story frame construction 28' yurt, designed by Vital Designs (David Raitt). Upstairs has a round open full kitchen/dining space, bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub and deck with dining benches. Downstairs is a queen bedroom with a shower bathroom/laundry and large downstairs deck. Our water is spring fed. We are on 165 acres of hill country with hiking trails through meadows, redwood/oak forests with several streams. The lower part of the property is bordered by wine country. It's a nice walk to Frey winery the oldest biodynamic winery in the country. Other Mendocino wineries are a short car, or bike ride away. Vichy (25 min) and Orr Hot Springs (45 min) are fairly close by, as is Lake Mendocino (15min), Blue Lakes (25 min) and Montgomery Woods (50 min). The Sun House Museum (20min), featuring Indian baskets and the art of Grace Hudson is in nearby Ukiah. It's an hour and half, slow, windy, beautiful drive to Fort Bragg and Mendocino on the coast. Kim and Mary are retired school teachers. Kim is a musician and Mary is an artist. There is no tv and internet is best out on the front porch! Cell reception is sketchy, and depends on your carrier. There are dvds, a dvd/cd player and an LCD projector. We have linens and dishes. Spring and Fall are usually lovely seasons, but who knows these days? We're on the eastern slope of Laughlin ridge, the highest point for US Highway 101 at the headwaters of the Russian River. From our location all the rivers flow south and west to the coast of California. The Eel River drainage, the only northern flowing system, begins at the Laughlin summit, just above the community of Willits Ca.. You can check weather and temp info at This doesn't necessarily show that we can often get a few days of over 100 °F in the summer. I mention this because we do not have air conditioning. But we do live on the eastern slope so that the sun goes down early in the summer (as well as behind trees in the winter!). Like other Californian coastal areas it can get quite warm at times in the summer. But it usually cools off at night. It's part of why it's a good wine growing area. The yurt is split level and the downstairs is always cool because it's built into the hillside. We do have fans and a large ceiling fan upstairs. August is a good time to check out the small deep pools up Mariposa Creek in the Enchanted Canyon. Also, because we are on the eastern slope we get more precipitation. This results in the flora being more like the area more to the west of us. We have redwood groves and mixed forests, whereas just across Tomki Road things are more dry. The higher elevations of our ranch usually gets some snow at different times throughout the winter. There are always interesting views any time of year when you hike up to Lion Rock Meadow. There are two monasteries further up Tomki Rd. the Mt. Tabor Monastery, a Byzantine Catholic monastery , and the Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery . It's a little more than a half hour drive to the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas which I believe is the largest Buddhist university outside of Asia. It has a great vegetarian restaurant, the Jyun Kang Vegetarian Restaurant . We can also recommend other places to eat as well. We've mentioned it in the House Rules, but it woud be good to note here as well, that we have opted to have a no pets rule for our guests. We both love animals and have had pets in the past, but we would rather not have to accomodate hosting pets. Sorry for the disappointment! We look forward to meeting you!
