Tavira is a really attractive town with some lovely, quite grand, buildings reflecting it's wealthy past particularly around the Praça da República area and then typical rows of Portuguese 'town' houses with tiled fronts along narrow cobbled streets, shops to browse in, pretty gardens and squares to sit in and, of course, plenty of restaurants and cafes for refreshments! Golf Algarve is known for it's abundant golf courses. Within a 20km radius there are 7 courses to choose from. Nearest is Benamor ((website hidden)) 20 minutes away and two other championship courses are a further 5 minutes along the same road and can be reached easily (Quinta da Ria). The prestigious new course of Monte Rei ((website hidden)) was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Traveling only 10kms further on towards Spain, the challenging course of Castro Marim, approximately 25 minutes away. Just across the border are the Costa Esuri and Quinta do Vale (designed by Severiano Ballesteros) courses now growing in popularity. There are many more golf courses within easy reach. If you wanted a change or a day out you could go along the west coast, where there are many more prestigious courses, and are easily accessible in around 30/60 minutes along the A22 motorway. Beaches Amazing sandy beaches are within easy reach, all have EEC Blue Flag for cleanliness and polution free water. Ilha de Tavira, Praia do Barril, Terra Estreita, Praia de Cabanas, Fábrica, Mantarota are all close by (10/15 minute drive).
