Beginning in the month of July the water begins to warm and you can swim in it. From Lake Mogosa, by ski-lift, you can go up to the top of Mogosa where, at a height of 1246 metres, there is a plateau with berries. Rather more unknown is Valea Chiuzbaii which is a fossil area. On the way towards the fossil reserve you need to follow the course of the river and you can see the 'whirlpools ' in which the locals wash their woolen rugs. r nBaia Sprie is found on the way from Baia Mare to Sighet, and at Sighet you can visit the old prison which has now become The Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance (www.memorialsighet.ro), Memorial House of Ellie Wiesel - the local that became prize-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. 18km from Sighet you can see the Cimitirul Vesel (The Merry Cemetary) from Sapanta. (www.visitmaramures.ro) r nIn the county of Maramures you can see many wooden churches. For example in Barsana, the wooden church certified as being built from 1720. r n7km From Baia Sprie towards Cavnic, there is a wooden church from Surdesti, built in 1766 which has a total height of 54 m. The roof has 2 levels of eaves which surround the church. The oak beams in the walls have been laid on a foundation of stone. The art from inside the church dates from 1783. In 1999 the church was included on the list of world heritage UNESCO. On arriving in Cavnic - Ocna Sugatag you can see the slope that defies gravity. You can also see the stone church dating from 1330-1340 in the community of Bogdan Voda (Culhea). In Baia Mare you can visit the Ethnographic Museum and the Minerology Museum. r n r nThe Small tour of Maramures includes: r nSurdesti: A visit to the Church of Saint Mihail and Gavril the Archangels, the church built in 1766 that was until recently considered to be the tallest wooden construction in Europe - included on the UNESCO list of world heritage, r nCavnic: Monastic complex in Barsana, where there is a special service on Good friday and the locals come to the monestry in traditional dress. r nSighetul Marmatiei, ex-resident of the county of Maramures, certified from 1329: Visits to The Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance and the Museum of Maramures villages. r nSapanta: The Merry Cemetary r n r n
