Review from February 2012: Great location and even better landlord - Simone was the most up beat and friendly renter I've encountered. She was there waiting for us, on time, just as we had arranged. She had a welcome packet with resturants, things to do, and even walked us to see where the Street Car, buses, and taxi's picked up. - The home was in great shape, comfortable beds, and a cozy, welcome home feel. The kitchen was fully stocked with spices, coffee maker, and all the dishes you'd need. - The location to the French Quarter is perfect, a 20 minute bus ride, a 20 dollar taxi ride, or a 15 minute street car ride. We didn't have to drive our entire stay. - The neighborhood was very quiet, relaxed, and beautiful to sit on the porch and drink some wine. - I would refer this house to anyone going to New Orleans for a stay. - The only downfall was we took our Wii to play, but there weren't any tv's in the rental. As the fist renters, it wasn't a big deal, just a suggestion for the future. (As a note from lessor, there is now a TV in the house!)

Description:Welcome to Kentucky st... This 160 yr old historical home is one of the gems of the Bywater... We are tucked away down near the St Claude Bridge on a quiet street were you and your gang can feel the pulse of real New Orleans living. Hear the sounds of trains, tug boats and the odd chicken crowing at sun set while being steps away to the famous Vuaghan's Bar, where Kermit Ruffins does his weekly throw down every Thursday night, great southern authentic BBQ at the Joint, great old world style and jazz at Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits and we are adjacent to the Marigny neighborhood which is home to Frenchman street, where all great New Orleans musicians play. The home it self is a stunning example of southern architecture and all of the old world originial hardware and trim make this one of the last of its kind in the Bywater area. With a huge wrap around porch, large yard, working fire places, central air and heat, 2 bath rooms, large dining room table, large yard and lots of street parking, this home is perfect for those who want to have a chill out place to be home base for there vacation in this adventurous city of ours. Off the beaten path, we are deep a quiet pocket of the Bywater which is home to mostly artists, musicians and working class folks and it is a 5 min drive to the edge of the French Quarter. There are many little restaurants and bars dotted over our neighborhood. Some walking distance, some a bike ride away, some a short car ride. I do have a few extra bikes that are available for use (sorry, not six, more like 2-4 bikes) which is the perfect way to get around during fall and spring season. I also have not charged a cleaning fee for the over 2000 sq foot house, so i am asking for the guests to leave it in reasonable condition when they leave. There is a queen size bed, a double, and 2 single beds in a shared room. IF you have any other questions about the house, feel free to drop me a line. I have been hosting Airbnb guest for over a year, and as you can see from the reviews, everyone has left happy! NOTE- I am will be subletting the house this summer2012 for a few months and open to renting it for 1-3 months during the Fall/Winter 2012-13 at a discounted rated from what is listed here. If you are interested in renting the house for such a period of time drop me a line and we can work something out. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING 1- we are located off the beaten path. 2,5 Miles from the French Quarter and 6 miles from the Garden District. To the Quarter that means it is a very long walk, easy 15 min bike ride, 5 min by taxi or car) 2- Weather- It is chilly from Dec-Feb and hot! from June-September, so biking during these months is not recommended for faint at heart. However biking during the early morning and at night in the summer is very sweet. Biking during the afternoon in the winter months is nice too. 3- our space is not recommended for the elderly 4- the public transit is slow in New Orleans. we provide bus maps/schedules (88 st claude bus brings you right to the quarter) but we do not recommend taking the bus at night. It is a 12-15 dollar cab right to or from the quarter and we can happily provide you with numbers for taxi companies 5- safety- New Orleans does not have a long standing rep as being a safe city. However i have heard about many more muggings in the Quarter than anything happening in our neighborhood. None the less, we recommend biking and walking in pairs during the late night hours 6- who we think is most suited for our space- urban savvy folks who like our selves who wanted to be outside the tourist traps and are traveling on a budget with a group. We suggest those with a car OR those planning on renting a car OR those willing to be bike adventurers. The buses do not go everywhere and things are so spread out to walk. If you are thinking of taking cabs back and forth from the quarter or festivals (therefore not biking or using a car ) it would make sense if you did it as a group of 4-6. Cabs should be called in advance and can be hard to get during high times such as jazzfest and Mardi Gras 7- Renting a car in or if you are just not that into bikes- it cost about $35 to a get a cab from the airport to the Quarter- $40 from the airport to our cottage. Same price for the return trip. To rent a car for the weekend it is about $70 (less than the round trip in cabs to the airport)if you book on Hotwire or PriceLine name your own price and in advance. So if you are coming for a weekend visit we recommend renting a car. THis way you can hit all things great about this city. The Garden District Uptown, City Park area, check out the Lower 9th Ward and see how the rebuilding it going, Audubon Park and Zoo etc. We will happily share with you are favorite places all over the city.

Description:Large, clean, well-furnished studio with separate entrance. This is a converted garage that is attached to our house by a door we never open. The studio has its own separate entrance. We do not live in it when it's not being rented out, meaning it's clean and fresh and doesn't have that lived in feel. We recently furnished it so everything is new new new. The apartment itself is big and has a fireplace, built-in bookshelves, spanish tile floor, and soaring ceilings. It is air-conditioned and has a ceiling fan. It features a small but well-equipped kitchen (stove, oven, small fridge) and a small bathroom. A 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive to Tulane and Lovola Universities, our location is perfect for parents visiting their college kids. This area is particularly lacking in hotels so offers a great opportunity for those who don't want the headache of staying downtown. We are in a lovely, shaded residential area. The apartment is two blocks from the Carrolton streetcar, two blocks from Palmer Park which features a popular art market once a month, and three blocks from a grocery store and Walgreens. You are also three blocks from the popular Panola Cafe. Please be advised that the price during Mardi Gras and Jazzfest is $200/night. For stays longer than a week, we can arrange a 'laundry day' where you can use our washer/dryer once a week at no extra cost. Additionally, we have housekeepers who come to clean every two weeks.
