Description:Hi! I live in a shotgun house in the heart of uptown New Orleans. In a shotgun, rooms flow into one another, and theoretically at least, you're supposed to be able to shoot a bullet through the front door and have the bullets fly out the back. So, from front to back, there's a parlor, office/music room, bedroom, kitchen, and brick back porch/garden. The place is palatial for one person, ideal for a couple, and can easily sleep four: I have a full bed with an amazing mattress, an eminently sleep-able couch, a single air mattress, and a single cot. Each room is separated by partial walls, but the floor plan is essentially open. I live in one of the safest and most flood-adverse areas in the city (the silver by the river, a stone's throw from the Mississippi on some of the highest ground that doesn't flood). There's central air and heat, two powerful ceiling fans, dishwasher, washer and dryer, gas range, microwave, claw foot tub and shower, three non-functioning fireplaces, a garden and gigantic live oak in the backyard, small raised front porch, 14-foot ceilings and windows, a side alley for outdoor storage or locking up and locking up bikes etc, chandeliers, a gynormous fridge (plenty of room for your stuff), lots of plants and musical instruments (drumset, various percussion, electric bass, guitars, keyboard, etc), tons of natural light, a security system, friendly neighbors, street parking for you and your friends, free WIFI, great landlords who live next door, and a hilarious and friendly maintenance guy right around the corner. I also have an unreal record collection, stereo, fully equipped kitchen, and lots of books. My crib is sandwiched between Magazine street, the fabled yuppie artery of NOLA, and Tchoupitoulas, the working-class industrial street that follows the river. It's a quick walk to Surrey's (brunch), Le Bon Temps Roule (one of the best music bars in NOLA), Tipitina's (one of the most famous music venues in the country), Hey! Cafe (coffee), F&M's (epicenter of debauchery outside of the FQ), St Joe's (cozy corner bar), Brothers Three and Grit's (awesome dives), Dick & Jenny's (four-star neighborhood restaurant), and Domilise and Guy's poboys (Travel Channel and Tremé-touted neighborhood po'boy joints). There's a great auto mechanic and bike mechanic literally around the corner. I'm 1.7 miles and ten minutes biking from Tulane and Loyola, 15 minutes by car and 45 by streetcar and foot to the quarter/Marigny/Bywater, and, incredibly, within walking distance of Zara's, Whole Foods, Winn Dixie, AND Rouse's groceries.
